Who We Are
In 1992, the Georgia General Assembly created the Georgia Commission on Family Violence to develop a comprehensive state plan for ending
family violence in Georgia.
There are 37 members appointed to the Commission:
- Director of the Division of Family and Children Services
- Director of Women’s Health Services in the Division of Public Health of the Department of Human Resources
- Attorney General
- 3 members of the House of Representatives
- 3 members from the Senate
- 1 judge from each judicial administrative district
- 3 advocates for battered women
- 1 person with expertise and interest regarding family violence involving persons who are 60 years of age or older
- 1 person with expertise and interest regarding family violence involving children
- 1 person from the legal aid community
- 1 person from the probation system
- 1 person from the academic community
- 1 former victim of family violence
- 1 representative from each of the following agencies:
- Administrative Office of the Courts
- Georgia Association of Chiefs of Police
- District Attorneys Association of Georgia
- Georgia Peace Officer Standards & Training Council
- State Board of Pardons & Paroles
- Georgia Sheriffs Association
- Criminal Justice Coordinating Council
- Solicitors Association of Georgia
- Men Stopping Violence
The Commission meets quarterly and works to provide leadership in strengthening Georgia’s families by ending family violence.
