Who We Are
 

In 1992, the Georgia General Assembly created the Georgia Commission on Family Violence to develop a comprehensive state plan for ending family violence in Georgia.

There are 37 members appointed to the Commission:

  • Director of the Division of Family and Children Services
  • Director of Women’s Health Services in the Division of Public Health of the Department of Human Resources
  • Attorney General
  • 3 members of the House of Representatives
  • 3 members from the Senate
  • 1 judge from each judicial administrative district
  • 3 advocates for battered women
  • 1 person with expertise and interest regarding family violence involving persons who are 60 years of age or older
  • 1 person with expertise and interest regarding family violence involving children
  • 1 person from the legal aid community
  • 1 person from the probation system
  • 1 person from the academic community
  • 1 former victim of family violence
  • 1 representative from each of the following agencies:
    • Administrative Office of the Courts
    • Georgia Association of Chiefs of Police
    • District Attorneys Association of Georgia
    • Georgia Peace Officer Standards & Training Council
    • State Board of Pardons & Paroles
    • Georgia Sheriffs Association
    • Criminal Justice Coordinating Council
    • Solicitors Association of Georgia
    • Men Stopping Violence
The Commission meets quarterly and works to provide leadership in strengthening Georgia’s families by ending family violence.
