What We Do
GCFV is charged with specific duties and carries out those duties through its projects.
O.C.G.A. 19-13-34 charges the GCFV with the following duties:
- Study and evaluate needs and services relating to family violence in Georgia;
- Evaluate and monitor the adequacy and effectiveness of existing family violence laws;
- Initiate and coordinate the development of family violence legislation;
- Monitor the implementation and enforcement of laws, regulations, and protocols concerning family violence;
- Make recommendations for education and training to ensure that all citizens and service providers are aware of needs and services relating to family violence;
- Develop models for community task forces on family violence;
- Provide training and continuing education on the dynamics of family violence to members of the Commission where appropriate and necessary;
- Report annually to the General Assembly during its existence;
- Develop standards to be used by the Department of Corrections in the certification and regulation of Family Violence Intervention Programs (FVIPs).
